What happens when genetic material is shifted from one species to another?  How is it done?  What are the goals?  Is it successful?  Is it predictable?  What are the consequences?  Are they permanent?

This map offers the smallest overview and introduction to the subject of genetic modification of organisms.  But following the links will convince you that caution is advised.

We have 10X as many gut bacteria as body cells.  These bacteria perform essential nutritional and immune functions for us.  Unlike human cells, all these bacteria have a metabolic pathway (the shikimate pathway) which is specifically inhibited by glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup).  Beneficial bacteria are destroyed, so we lose the benefits they provide.  Pathogenic organisms overgrow, creating disease and toxicity.  This map introduces some of the research and offers links to articles and documented presentations on this important subject.
